Aces poker: everything you need to know about one of the most popular hands in poker

There is no doubt that Aces poker - also known at the tables as "Four of a kind" more commonly as "quads" among players, in this case Aces - is one of the most spectacular hands a player can form during a poker game. It has been exploited countless times in multiple mediums in movies, books and television series.

The truth is that it is a tremendously showy hand: it is formed by the four aces of poker: A AA Aª. By putting them all together you can form this hand, which is very complicated to get. However, although it is a powerful hand, it has been attributed an invincibility that it does not possess. It is not an unbeatable hand despite how spectacular it is, since it has above even other hands, but you should not underestimate it either.

Aces poker: how to play it

In poker, to gather the 4 aces is extremely complicated. To achieve it, it is undeniable that it will take a bit of luck, since not only technique will be able to form a poker hand like this. But the player who manages to collect all four between the cards he has been dealt and the community cards, will be able to form a poker hand of aces.

If, for example, you have two aces in your possession, and among the community cards, whether it is the FLOP (the first three cards), the TURN (fourth card) or the RIVER (5th and last card on the table) there is the missing pair of aces, that poker hand is surely yours because you will have formed a poker hand of aces. Unless, of course, one of your opponents has been able to form a straight flush or a royal flush, which, as we will see later, are hands that can beat an ace poker hand.

That is why it is very important to watch the suit or color of the cards on the table, as well as the order. Because these cards that serve us in our QUAD or Aces poker, also serve our opponents.

The poker is one of the hands of this game that can be gathered with four cards of the same value. That is to say, four kings would result in a poker of kings. Four queens, to a poker of queens. Four aces, to a poker of aces. It is more powerful than the full house, the flush and the straight. And, of course, it also beats three of a kind, double pair, single pair and high card, the least strong hands of all.

Is ace poker the most powerful hand in poker?

No, it is not. Although it is a very cinematic and spectacular hand to watch, the truth is that ace poker is not the most powerful hand in poker. It is true that, of all the poker hands that can be formed, aces is the strongest, but it is not the most powerful hand that can be formed in a game.

We have already seen how strong an aces poker is, but straights are its Achilles heel. But beware: let's not fall into the confusion of mixing all types of straights because the aces poker beats a conventional straight. One, for example, formed by cards from 6 to 10 of different suits, combining hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades.

But the story changes with straight flushes and, of course, with the royal flush. Let's see how these hands are formed, capable of beating an ace poker showdown.

Aces poker vs. royal flush

In a duel between a poker of aces vs. a royal flush, the latter is the winner. The royal flush is the unbeatable hand, the real annihilator. It is capable of knocking down even a straight flush and, of course, a poker of aces.

But, as we said, do not confuse the different types of straights when you talk about a showdown with an ace poker.

A conventional straight is the sixth most powerful hand in the ranking, far behind hands like a flush or a full house. In contrast, the story changes with a straight and a royal flush.

A straight flush is one of the two hands that can beat an ace-high poker hand. It is made up of five consecutive cards of the same suit and therefore sharing the same color. Hence its name. For example, a conjunction of cards of 6 7 8 9 10forms a straight flush.

The royal flush is but the same version of the straight flush, only it is formed by the highest hands in the deck. For example, 10 J Q K A. Being the straight that brings together the royal cards of the same suit (jack, king and queen, along with the 10 and ace at the ends), it is called the royal flush, and is the most powerful hand in poker. It is the most powerful hand in poker, above the straight flush and even the aces poker.

That is why we remind you once again that you should always pay attention to the suit or color of the cards on the table, as well as the order of their numbers. A community Ace on the table, which serves us to make our hand, the Aces poker, can also be the end of a royal flush or the beginning of a straight flush... And both beat our poker.

Now that you know what an ace poker is, its strength and weaknesses, you will have a more realistic understanding of the possibilities and dangers of your hand at the poker table.

Because let's not fool ourselves, it is a very powerful hand, but we can never play in an absent-minded way, especially this kind of hands. The table requires concentration, and there are famous situations in which great players have been confident with QUADS of Aces in their hand and have "lost" against players who have known how to take advantage of the carelessness that comes from having that powerful play in their hand.
